Because she was the only apprentice who stayed and survived. However, it’s special, isn’t it? Because Illyana is dear to him. And Stephen would certainly react this way to anyone else in her shoes. The Empirikul chooses Illyana as their first victim to be burned. Whether or not this panel was Bachalo’s idea, I simply adore this. I don’t know how familiar Aaron is with the other sorcerers except for Stephen. One thing that I know for sure is, Chris Bachalo loves Illyana as much as he loves Stephen (after all, he was also the penciler for Uncanny X-Men, the very volume in which Illyana becomes Stephen’s daughter apprentice). V4 is awesome when it comes to exploring Stephen’s relationship with Zelma and Wong, but so little is shown about the other sorcerers.

In issue #9, after a few days on the run, he displays a full beard and keeps it for the rest of the whole run. The next issue, we see a Stephen who needs shaving. When Empirikul first strikes, Stephen is wearing his usual moustache in issue #7. So he endures it, hoping that death will take him soon enough, finally easing the pain. He cannot retire and he cannot pass this burden down to an apprentice. However, here lies the dilemma: he’s the Sorcerer Supreme. He keeps saying the pain in his organs is excruciating. But he also ~wants~ to die because he’s been hurting for SO long. Stephen doesn’t mind sacrificing his own life in order to save the world. He’s willing to die - but there’s a catch One more hint about different types of magicĥ. Also fuck everyone else who foments any enmity among the three of them (this includes MCU fans who keep hating on Stephen). Plus this is one more panel starring Magik and Wanda. He pukes A LOT all the time in v4, even though Wong and his order take care of the cost. He’s also under constant pain because of his health conditions. That’s why he’s always tired and hates mornings. The reason why Stephen has odd habits is probably because he can’t sleep He probably can’t even hold a knife without getting injured or something… I thought he couldn’t cook because he was merely a himbo.
